World current events inevitably impact travel planning in some way. Today’s discussion was brought on by the recent development in Greece, where the government is getting close to defaulting on their next payment on their loans to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). As Glen mentions in the podcast, some forecasters are predicting that the Eurozone crisis may bring about a US$ 1 : 1 Euro exchange rate if the situation does not improve.
While no one should wish for a crisis in order to have favorable travel plans, as savvy travelers we need to keep our eyes open and ears to the ground for world events that impact our trip planning. This could mean that European travel could be more accessible to people who have always wanted to go but did not have sufficient funds.
Conversely, we also need to monitor the situation on the ground in our desired destinations and assess how it may impact our safety.
